Notice of Mailbox Relocation

This is a reminder that Canada Post will be moving the seven sets of mailboxes located at 601 chemin de la Gare. They will be relocated to 628 chemin de la Gare during the week of April 23, 2023.

Major work is planned for the City Hall, making the move necessary to ensure the safety of users and Canada Post employees.

Thank you for your understanding!

On the calendar

The next Council meeting will be held on Monday, May 15th starting at 7:30 pm. The Mayor and Council members will welcome you at City Hall, located at 601 chemin de la Gare. It is also possible to attend by videoconference. We invite you to consult the public notice that will be published on May 1st for all the details.

https://ivry-sur-le-lac.qc.ca/en/news-and-public-notices/

Also in May, we are planning to move the City Hall building to 628 chemin de la Gare. This move will involve major work that will require careful planning with the various parties involved in this historic adventure. Watch for the notice boards that will soon be installed for this purpose.

The current site will be replaced by a new construction that will begin during the summer.

On another note, work on chemin Lacasse / Montée Daoust is scheduled to begin in early June. We are working in collaboration with the entrepreneur to facilitate local traffic despite the work. Keep an eye on the “info-travaux” tab on the home page of our website! The new schedule will be published there before the work begins.

Temporary Carport

With spring upon us, it’s time to think about taking down your temporary carport. The presence of a temporary carport within all setbacks and parking areas is permitted from October 1st of one year to May 1st of the following year under Bylaw 2013-060, and sections 206 and 368, so it is important to plan to remove it before the end of April.

It is possible to install a temporary shelter between May 1st and October 1st of the same year under certain conditions. The installation of a temporary shelter is authorized only if it is installed in the rear lateral margins and is not visible from a public or private road.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Quebec Waste Reduction Week year-round for 2023!

This year, Quebec’s Waste Reduction Week takes place throughout the year. Each month, a theme is addressed, and the month of April is under the theme “repair”.

What is the life span of your electrical and electronic appliances? How many times can you wear and wash an item of clothing before it gets damaged or changes shape? Does this life span seem too short to you?

Our objects often become unusable faster than we would like. When manufacturers deliberately choose to make things to last less time, thus encouraging us to buy new ones, they are using programmed obsolescence.

Planned obsolescence often takes one of three different forms:

  •  Technical obsolescence occurs when the object can no longer be replaced or repaired, either because a broken part is immovable, or is no longer available to replace it, since the object is no longer manufactured.
  •  Aesthetic obsolescence occurs when the object is no longer fashionable, or when manufacturers introduce a new technology in a new product that replaces it. Often this new technology was available earlier, but the manufacturer chooses to release it a few months later to encourage new purchases.
  •  Software obsolescence is mainly related to smartphones and computers, but also to all connected devices. It can be in the form of limited technical support even if the device still works, mandatory updates that make devices slow down and make us buy new, more powerful ones, or incompatibility of new software with our devices.

Although obsolescence of objects is not always programmed, they often break down much faster than we would like and put us in front of a choice: buy to replace, or repair?

The large number of different components in electronic devices makes recycling these devices complex. The large size of appliances means that they take up a lot of space in landfills. The components also require a lot of resources to make them.

That’s why it makes more sense to have them repaired when you can! It’s a good idea to think about!

Municipal Washing Station and Municipal Landing

The official opening of the washing station and municipal landing is yet to be determined. Watch our website for more information as soon as the date is determined.

Washing boats, trailers, nautical equipment, and material is essential and MANDATORY for all types of boats.

Prevention is the best option. Considering that scientific studies have proven that invasive exotic species can cause considerable damage to flora, fauna, water quality, public health, and the property value of waterfront properties, we have made sure to take measures to maintain water quality.

The administrative team accepts applications for registrations and renewals. It is important to ensure that your file is complete and that your payment is made to the administration team before you arrive, or before the boat is delivered by your dealer. Use this address to send your payment by Interac transfer to:

comptabilite@ivry-sur-le-lac.qc.ca

Access to the lake may be denied if the file is not complete.

Make sure you do it in advance, it’s the best way to avoid any worries!

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that the schedule for the municipal landing for the 2023 season was adopted by Council at the April 17th meeting.

 From opening to July 2, 2023                                   7 days from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

July 3, 2023 to September 1, 2023                            5 days/week from Wednesday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

September 2, 2023 to October 31, 2023                   7 days from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

It is important to note that the hours may vary, without notice, depending on the availability of human resources assigned to the washing station and the municipal landing, and on the traffic during the season.

The importance of respecting the safety corridor

As part of their duties, City employees must stop their identified vehicle on a public roadway to perform work (inspections, road work, etc.). When the vehicle is stopped and the yellow arrow, flashing beacon and/or lights are activated, the vehicle that is about to pass must respect a safety corridor. The driver of the vehicle must ensure that it is safe to do so by slowing down and moving as far away from the stopped vehicle as possible.

It should be noted that the safety corridor section (emergency vehicles, tow trucks, or a surveillance vehicle is stopped) was added to the Highway Safety Code (HSC) over 10 years ago, specifically on August 5, 2012. Road users who fail to comply with this driving rule are subject to fines of 200 to $300 as well as a deduction of 4 demerit points to their record.

We are counting on your vigilance to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Thank you for your precious collaboration,

Work in the shoreline and littoral zone – Important message

Since the coming into force of new provincial regulations in March 2022, all work in the shoreline and littoral zone is subject to obtaining an authorization from the ministère de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques (MELCC).

Municipal regulations also require that a permit or certificate be obtained.

Although some shoreline residents have been using aerators or other devices near their docks and/or boathouses for years, a ministerial authorization is now required, as well as a permit from the municipal planning department.

How do I obtain an authorization? Contact the MELCC using the following link to obtain the contact information:

https://www.quebec.ca/en/government/ministere/environnement/contact-us

You can make an information request by phone or by using the form provided.

Fines of up to $600,000 can be issued for misconduct.

You must ensure, for all work carried out in the riparian strip or in the littoral zone, that you have obtained all necessary authorizations or, if applicable, written confirmation that the planned work does not require authorization from the MELCC. This information must be sent to the municipality without delay before the work begins.
