Welcome to our staff!

We are very pleased to welcome back Mr. Mathieu Tousignant for a second year.  Mr. Tousignant is a local road worker.  His duties include straightening road signs, painting, landscaping maintenance and grass cutting, tree cutting, ditch cleaning and much more.To help us better manage road work and maximize the work done during the short summer season, we invite you to report any problems you may find at admin@ivry-sur-le-lac.qc.ca.

This summer, we will have two new attendants who will ensure the proper operation of the  Lac Manitou wash station and municipal landing, always with the goal of preserving the quality of the water bodies of our wonderful territory. We would like to welcome Jacob Ibghy (photo on the left) and Étienne Tousignant (photo on the right) to our team!

Green waste – Too valuable to put in the garbage!

The beautiful spring weather is the time for outdoor chores.  We encourage you to place green waste, such as branches of a diameter of less than 4 cm, dead leaves, flowers, plants, pine needles, bark, and shavings inside the brown bin.  This waste will be composted and used to feed the earth! 

Other options to dispose of your green waste in an environmentally friendly way include the following:

• Leave grass clippings on the ground after mowing the lawn. Nitrogen-rich clippings will be quickly reabsorbed by the soil and will enrich your lawn.
• In the fall, mow dead leaves on the ground and leave the shredded leaves on the lawn, or lay them out as mulch in flower beds or the garden.
• Keep a quantity of dead leaves in a large bag and use them at any time of the year in your brown bin, alternating with food waste. During the summer season, the leaves help to reduce odours from the brown bin especially during hot weather.

When green waste is deposited in your black bin, it ends up in landfills and produces methane, a gas that is a nuisance in terms of odour and contributes to the greenhouse effect.  In fact, methane is 21 times more harmful than the carbon dioxide produced by our cars.  The importance of changing our habits is paramount!

Raod Sweeping

Road sweeping is no exception, delays are caused by the mandatory closure of the contractor’s operations due to COVID-19. However, the contractor has confirmed that it will begin road sweeping early next week, beginning May 19.

Supervision by the Régie Incendie des Monts

The team of the Régie Incendie des Monts has kindly accepted to tour the territory of the Municipality of Ivry-sur-le-Lac as a preventive measure and to introduce themselves. If you come across a Régie Incendie des Monts truck, please do not hesitate to say hello!

Temporary Carport – Reminder

We understand that travel restrictions imposed by the Direction de la santé publique may have delayed your spring plans.  Please be reminded, however, that your carport must be removed no later than May 1, By-law No. 2013-060, Section 368. We invite you to proceed as soon as possible if you have not already done so.

Residual materials collection

As of the month of May, the frequency of collection has been expanded. Your garbage bin, that is, the black bin, is collected every two weeks.  The green bin, which contains recyclable material, will continue to be collected every two weeks, alternating with the black bin. The brown bin, for its part, is collected every week.  This new collection frequency is seasonal and is effective until September inclusively. Prohibition of open fire in or near forest

Due to the current pandemic situation in Québec, the Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs in collaboration with the Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU) is imposing a ban on open fires in or near forests for several territories, the Laurentians being covered by this ban, which has been effective since April 23, 2020. Since April 1, 2020, the SOPFEU has suspended, for an indefinite period, the issuance of permits for industrial burning and other fires throughout Quebec.

At the same time, we remind you that you must have a burning permit before lighting a fire, it’s free and online and it only takes a few minutes to fill out. On this website, you will be able to validate if the fire ban is still applicable: https://ridm.quebec/.

Services for Seniors

The greater Laurentian region is made up of a diverse population where our seniors are well represented.  The mission of CASA Laurentides, Centre d’action soutient autonomie, is to promote cooperation among the organizations and institutions of the MRC des Laurentides to meet the needs of seniors and people in loss of autonomy, with the goal of keeping them in their homes as long as possible.

We are fortunate to have several local organizations that offer a myriad of services to seniors.

COVID-19 – Impact on the Green Bin

The pandemic and stay-at-home measures have had an impact on the amount of material received at the various sorting centres. Because so many people are at home, they are using delivery services for their online orders.  As a result, we have noticed a greater volume of cardboard of all kinds.  We have also noticed a significant increase in returnable containers.  Since merchants have stopped taking back empty cans and bottles, people do not always have the space, or the desire, to keep them at home and therefore they have placed them in the green bin.  This increase in the number of returnable containers reached 50% at the Lachute plant.

When cleaning up in the spring, make sure that you place only accepted recyclable materials. Hoses, patio chairs, broken shovels, pool covers, ladders and other such items should never be placed in the bin!
