In fact, when you don’t clear snow from the cover of your bin prior to pick-up, the snow is collected in the truck at the same time as the recyclable materials, which causes significant difficulties at the sorting stage. A significant amount of snow accumulates, so it makes sorting difficult.<\/p>\n

As the ashes from your fireplace are rich in phosphorus, potassium and other trace elements, le Minist\u00e8re de l\u2019Agriculture, P\u00eacherie et Alimentation<\/em> recommends the use of ash as a soil fertilizer.<\/p>\n The link between blue-green algae or cyanobacteria and phosphorus<\/strong><\/p>\n Cyanobacteria, or blue-green algae, are naturally present in our lakes. However, when water warms up and is too rich in nutrients, these organisms proliferate (water bloom) and can compromise the quality of bodies of water.<\/p>\n Why not use ashes as fertilizers in wetlands or other bodies of water<\/strong><\/p>\n As ashes are high in phosphorus, a chemical element essential for plant growth, the excessive intake of phosphorus or phosphates in our bodies of water causes a significant increase in vegetation and consequently the proliferation of algae that ends up consuming all available resources, thereby asphyxiating pre-existing species.<\/p>\n Therefore, to avoid contaminating our lakes and wetlands and to eliminate the proliferation of algae, including blue-green algae or cyanobacteria, the government recommends a ban on the spreading of fertilizer on riparian strips.
