Recently, a second inspection was conducted. During this second inspection, we found that a majority of the non-compliant shorelines have been greatly improved, and this only by cessation of grass cutting in this protection strip, which is excellent and we thank you for it! However, the compliance of a shoreline strip does not stop with the vegetation, but also with the structures present in this shoreline strip. In fact, according to the regulations, the riparian protection strip must generally be left under vegetation cover except for the installation of a staircase when the slope of the land is greater than 30%.\u00a0<\/p>\n Therefore, in order to achieve a compliant shoreline on all levels, the stone slabs, concrete “Japanese step” style in the shoreline strip must also be removed. Although these elements may have been on your property for a long time, it is not permitted to leave them there. While these stones may enhance your shoreline experience, they contribute to direct water runoff into the lake. As you know, rainwater absorbs many airborne pollution particles and when it reaches the ground it carries with it the sediments present on the ground which unfortunately contributes to the nutrient input resulting in the possible eutrophication of the water body, which is undesirable.\u00a0<\/p>\n Definition of “Eutrophication\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Excessive input of nutrients into waters, resulting in plant growth, oxygen depletion and ecosystem imbalance.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0It is again with a view to conserving and improving the quality of the water bodies in Ivry-sur-le-Lac that we insist on the benefits of bringing the riparian protection strip into compliance with the regulations in force. Every little bit helps, and it is unfortunately not at the precipice that we have to change, because it will be too late.
